While Stranger Things elevated Millie Bobby Brown to superstardom, the actor is actually happy that her popular Netflix series is ending with Season 5.
In an interview with Seventeen, the 19-year-old star shared that she is ready to say goodbye to the show. "I’m definitely ready to wrap up," she said. "I feel like there’s a lot of the story that’s been told now, and we know of it, it’s been in our lives for a very long time." Brown is excited to move on to the next chapter of her life but is still grateful for getting the opportunity to be a part of Stranger Things. "I'm able to create stories myself that are important to me and focus on the bigger picture," she noted.
Brown rose to fame with her portrayal of Eleven in the 1980s-set sci-fi series. She has gone on to star in Netflix blockbusters like Enola Holmes and its sequel Enola Holmes 2. The Godzilla: King of the Monsters actor was only eleven years old when the first season of Stranger Things came out and has spent nearly nine years playing the role of Eleven.
David Harbour Says Goodbye to Stranger Things
Her co-star David Harbour, who plays Eleven's adopted father, Jim Hopper, also echoed similar sentiments about the show ending in a recent interview. "What's funny is when I started the show, I never ever wanted it to end," he said. "That’s why I love the show. I think it's a great show, even if I wasn't in it. Now we're almost nine years from filming the first season, and I think it is time for it to end. But it is, of course, very bittersweet." While Harbour believes there is a sadness attached to the show ending he also thinks that "we've all grown up" and it’s time for the cast to experiment with other projects. "And to let the Duffer Brothers try different things as well. I mean, those guys are so talented. I want to see what they come up with next. So it is bittersweet, but it's definitely time," Harbour added.
Stranger Things Spinoff Plans
While Netflix's main Stranger Things show might be ending, several projects are in the pipeline to keep the franchise going. The first of these is the Stranger Things live stage show, which is confirmed to depict Vecna’s origin story. An official teaser trailer shows that the show will be set in Hawkins in 1959. Creators Jim and Ross Duffer already seem to have an idea for a spinoff series that Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike on the show, unwittingly guessed. According to Wolfhard, the brothers were surprised that the actor was able to figure out the premise for the spinoff series. "[They] were like, 'That is the idea [for the spinoff]. Who told you?' and I was like, 'No one'... and they were like 'Okay, well... don't tell anyone,'" Wolfhard said. However, no further information is known about the potential project.
Stranger Things' fifth and final season is believed to start filming this summer, with some evidence also pointing to a 2024 release window.
