Stranger Things season 4's finale, "The Piggyback," culminates in the tragic deaths of Eddie and (potentially) Max, making them Vecna's latest victims, along with Chrissy, Fred, Patrick, and anybody caught in the path of the massive gate opening through Hawkins. If Eddie's Dungeons & Dragons campaign is to be believed, Vecna's victims could be reanimated as his hooded cultists, perhaps as one of Vecna's illusions or by some even darker method, meaning the haunting return of fan-favorite Eddie and maybe even an answer to what happened to Max at the end of Stranger Things 4. Not only this, but the Vecna of Eddie's D&D game decimates the players until there are only two left, which could spell bad news for the current surviving group in Hawkins.
It should also be noted that Dustin rolls an 11 during the Dungeons & Dragons campaign, but that this is not enough to take down Vecna; it's only a roll of 20 that finally ends the game. In the Stranger Things season 4 finale, Eleven goes toe-to-toe with Vecna and fails to deliver the final blow. Stranger Things 5 will undoubtedly put the two superpowered foes up against each other once again, hopefully with a different ending that equates to a roll of 20.
Stranger Things creators, the Duffer Brothers, are taking a short break before getting to work on season 5, leaving viewers waiting in anticipation for more information after season 4's cliffhanger ending. Vecna's whereabouts are currently unknown, but his grand plan of opening a giant gate in Hawkins was completed at the end of Stranger Things season 4. If the Dungeons & Dragons game is actually foreshadowing, it could mean that the final season of Stranger Things will be bigger and better than previous seasons.
