Sweet Tooth season 2: release date, cast and plot for Netflix fantasy drama

Have you been craving a midday candy pick-me-up or after-dinner dessert? You can blame that hankering on a simple fact: Sweet Tooth returns in April. And in Season 2, it’s time for the hybrids to fight back.

The family-friendly fantasy series follows Gus (Christian Convery), a human-deer hybrid who was born at one of the most catastrophic times in history. Ten years before the series, a mysterious virus appeared, whipping out 98% of the globe’s population and throwing society into the Great Crumble, an era of debilitating chaos. As the Great Crumble destroyed the world as we knew it, something unexplainable also happened — the birth of human-animal hybrid babies like Gus.

Are the hybrids the cause of the Great Crumble (and the cataclysmic virus known as the Sick)? Or are they the result of the virus? Warring factions have very different answers to these questions, putting Sweet Tooth’s heroes and villains on an unforgettable collision course.

In Season 2 — executive produced by Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell  and Linda Moran — Gus and his fellow hybrids will find new strength as they uncover the origins of the Great Crumble. Keep reading to find out  what you can expect to see in their next adventures, including new photos and cast details.

What happens in Sweet Tooth?

In Sweet Tooth Season 2, a deadly new wave of the Sick is bearing down on humanity. Gus and a band of other child hybrids are held prisoner by the villainous General Abbot (Neil Sandilands) and the Last Men, a violent group of mercenaries who hunt hybrids. Abbot uses the children as fodder for the experiments of captive Dr. Aditya Singh (Adeel Akhtar); Abbot wants to find a cure and amass power, Dr. Singh simply wants to save his infected wife, Rani (Aliza Vellani).

Gus, always a hero, agrees to help Dr. Singh, thus beginning a dark journey into discovering his own origins. He may also learn more about his mother, Birdie’s (Amy Seimetz) role in the events leading up to the Great Crumble. Elsewhere, Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) and Aimee Eden (Dania Ramirez ) team up to free the hybrids, creating a partnership that will be tested as Jepperd’s secrets come to light.

Can I watch the Sweet Tooth teaser?

You sure can, above. The teaser takes us back into the Preserve, where the First Men have taken up shop. Inside, Dr. Singh has a heart-to-heart with Gus, telling him he may just bring “hope” back to the world. Based on the rest of the explosive footage, it seems as though Gus will take Dr. Singh’s words to heart. He’s ready to lead — and isn’t letting anyone get in his way.

Is Sweet Tooth based on a comic book?

Yes, it is. Sweet Tooth is inspired by the DC comic book series by Jeff Lemire, which debuted in 2009. While you’re welcome to dive into Lemire’s gorgeous comics, you don’t have to read the series to enjoy the twists and turns of Sweet Tooth Season 2.
