Strangers Things Writers Reveal Will Almost Killed a Beloved Character

In a shocking reveal, Netflix's Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy confirms that Will Byers almost killed a fan-favorite Season 2 character.

The writers of Stranger Things just revealed that Will Byers almost killed his mom's boyfriend, Bob Newby, in Season 2.

Levy responded to a tweet from the Stranger Things writers' room Twitter account which said that a possessed Will came close to doing the deed. The producer added that the moment would have been "CRAZY." Bob died at the end of Season 2, but at the hand of some hungry Demodogs -- not Will.

If this shocking revelation about Will's almost-fate proves anything, it's that no character is safe in the Stranger Things writer's room. Though the plot details for Season 5 remain tightly under wraps, Maya Hawke, who plays Robin, thinks that "people are probably going to die," adding "I would love to die and get my hero's moment."

Will Eddie Munson Return?

This would undoubtedly be tough on Stranger Things fans, many of whom are still reeling from the death of Joseph Quinn's fan-favorite character, Eddie Munson. His demise left fans so upset, in fact, that they petitioned for the showrunners, Matt and Ross Duffer, to bring him back from the dead for Season 5. "The Duffer Brothers have unfairly killed him off and many other fans and I think he deserves to be brought back and not just as a flashback, please sign this petition to spread awareness," it reads.

But despite the petition having almost 87,000 signatures, Levy says that it is unlikely that Munson will make a return, calling a flashback "Highly unlikely. Highly unlikely." He added, "But, we hear you, world. We know. You're obsessed with Eddie. So were we."

Fans will be able to see for themselves whether the character is brought back soon enough, as David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper on Stranger Things, thinks Season 5 will be debuting sooner rather than later. "It'd probably come out mid-2024, based on our track record," he predicted. The Stranger Things writers' room recently confirmed that the season will consist of eight episodes, and episodes will run at around an hour each.

Seasons 1 through 4 of Stranger Things, which follows a group of kids on a mission to protect their small town of Hawkins, IN, from various monsters, are available to stream on Netflix. There is no confirmed release date for Season 5 yet.
